The Bearcub Chalet, built in 2001, is a beautiful 3 bedroom, 4 bath "A-frame" mountain home with large recreation room, loft and redwood deck with spa. Situated on a hillside in the midst of tall pines at Blue Lake Springs resort in Arnold (elevation 4000 ft) near Calaveras Big Trees State Park, it is easily accessible by a level driveway even in snow.

The resort's facilities at Snowflake Lodge, which is a two-minute walk from the chalet, include tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. During the summer the pool, snack bar and a lake with a sandy beach are open for a small daily fee.

Outdoor movies and children's supervised arts and crafts programs are available from May to September. On weekends all year round the restaurant offers excellent dining open exclusively to residents and renters of the community. Reservations advised.

Bear Valley ski resort, 20 miles to the east, is known as a family-friendly, lower-cost resort, which offers downhill and cross country skiing for all skill levels. Other popular winter activites are sledding, snowshoeing, snowboarding and snowmobiling.

Activities in the surrounding national forests include fishing, hiking among ancient redwoods, mountain biking on established trails, rafting on the Stanislaus river and canoeing on crystalline lakes. Among other attractions of the area are the famous Moaning and Mercer Caverns, historic Gold Rush towns, winery tours, several golf courses, as well as swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing on the New Melones reservoir.

Bearcub Chalet, owned by a San Francisco Bay Area family, has been furnished and equipped for their own use and to share with friends. They hope visitors will enjoy the house and its amenities and come back often.

Bearcub Chalet, 130 Linda Drive, Arnold

Located in Arnold off Highway 4, Blue Lake Springs division, in the central Sierra Nevada mountains, about 25 miles east of Angels Camp and Route 49.

From I-5, take Highway 4 East. Follow the signs through Angels Camp continuing on Highway 4. Go through the town of Arnold. One mile east of the Arnold Chevron gas station (which is on your left), turn right at the sign for Blue Lake Springs (Moran Road). Turn left at the second road, Linda Drive. Sharp right into the first (long) driveway, at the bend in the road. 130 Linda Drive. In snowy conditions it is easier to drive past the driveway, make a u-turn at the end of Linda Drive and approach the driveway from the opposite direction.
